As I very much obey copyright laws & as I am always asking for permssion to post content by third parties, I was delighted when I discovered that each Instagram account provides a link by which one can embed Instagram posts on a blog or website. So I thought. But after emailing an inquiry to VG Bild-Kunst, the German branch of the Artists Rights Society, I learned that embedding Instagram posts is a violation of copyright. So, I sent VG Bild-Kunst another email to inquire further on this issue. If embedding an Instagram post is illegal, why does each post explicitly provide a link for that purpose? This is imho inconsequent.
When reading the Instagram TOS, I discovered the following sentence:
Offering personalized opportunities to create, connect, communicate, discover, and share.
“… and share”. So, am I allowed to share Instagram posts – or not? Btw, this TOS (Terms of Service) encompass 2,604 words. Why can’t they make things a little easier for the users?
